Giles Barwick

Giles is a Bristol (U.K.) based fine artist, who first studied Graphic Design. Following a short course at St. Ives School of Art, he applied to the University of the West of England (UWE) to study Fine Art. It was here that he was awarded the “Innes Wilken Art in Architecture” prize.

Since gaining his BA, Giles has continued to develop his innovative techniques and shrewd use of colours within his work. Currently, he produces 2D abstract work; the techniques are varied and rather than favouring a linear style, as shown in his original work, he has now adopted a more illustrative style. The rough brush strokes, dribbles and smears are achieved with the use of acrylics, pens and spray cans.

Giles art remains a means of self- expression, painting and drawing having always been an integral part of his life, and yet his more angst ridden canvases are bright and lively in nature.

not a word found in this artist’s lexicon, every print has a criteria of quality. They can vary from five layers to forty and can take weeks or many months to execute. Having printed on denim, silk, surfboards and many other surfaces, Jim’s bigger images are printed onto canvas, reworked and refined using acrylics and spray paint
